This is a sponsored post on behalf of the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden through the Kitchen PLAY network. Gardening is a huge part of my life as are fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs on my site. All opinions are my own.
You may remember back in May that I flooded my social media with the excitement that was going on in my house when my son, Jacob, was featured front and center in the Wall Street Journal. Not only was he featured in the WSJ, but also in over 90 Associated Press articles that were a result of his feature.
What was the feature article about? Gardening. Specifically, that Jacob bought himself a rain barrel to use on his garden. That’s right, my 11-year old son bought a rain collection barrel with his own money that he uses to water his garden that he also paid for himself.
So when I was presented with an offer to test out the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden ULTRA LED, I jumped at that chance. We would be able to grow our favorite herbs, greens, tomatoes and peppers INDOORS, with minimal effort AND in the winter? That’s a win-win.
I immediately knew when I assembled my AeroGarden ULTRA LED that we were going to have fun with this. I received it literally as we were leaving for a 10 day vacation and I worried I wouldn’t have time to get it assembled and the seeds started.
Once I took out all the parts and scanned the easy, step-by-step instructions though, my worries faded. Assembly literally took me 5 minutes.
Once we placed the AeroGarden ULTRA LED unit where we wanted it (thought it would literally fit anywhere in our house) we chose herbs as our first ‘plants’ to try. Expecting that it might be hard we were again surprised that it took less than 5 minutes to get our first ‘crop’ started.
The step-by-step instructions on the brightly lit screen told us what to do. This is a no-fail project and unless you never add water (after about the first 2 weeks) or nutrients (the machine lets you know when), I don’t see how you could mess this up.
Do you see those labels? Not only do they give you the time until germination, they also give an approximate height so you can plan accordingly. You literally place each pre-seeded pod in the hole. That’s it. Really.
We are already planning to get the slimmer, smaller AeroGarden 3SL to keep in the kitchen and use this full sized ULTRA LED unit in the sunroom to grow larger greens and tomatoes. Can you just imagine tasting a tomato you grew YOURSELF on a cold January day? I can’t wait!
Update: After 10 days this is our progress so far. It’s so fun to watch unfold!
The Miracle-Gro AeroGarden 3SL will be available at Walmart.com beginning around 11/1/14 and at select Walmart stores beginning around 11/14. The ULTRA LED is currently available at Costco.com and will be available in select Costco Warehouses beginning about 11/1. To see the entire line of Miracle-Gro AeroGardens, click here.
