Essential Oils and Your Health

In July when my grandmother died I was asked to read a small poem at her funeral.  It was the least I could do for a woman who meant so much to me.  The problem was I was afraid I wouldn’t get through it.  I wanted to eloquently give this reading and not be a blubbering mess.

I asked a friend of mine who had mentioned that lavender oil had really had a calming effect on her to let me try it.  Now, I am not one to use medications, lean on stimulants or fall for any and every new trick in the book.  I am somewhat of a skeptic.

But I tried the lavender in a few ounces of water and I was amazed that it really did work.  I felt somewhat at ease and those 2 drops helped me get through one of the toughest days of my life.

Since then I have tried several other blends both topically and in foods and even tea!  I love the pure unadulterated flavor they impart in just a fraction of a drop.  Needless to say I ordered some for myself.  I wanted to share this with you all but I asked my friend Rebeca Holloway of The Average Oiler and The Average Parent to share with you all more information than I could.  She is my go-to expert on oils!

Did you know that we spend about 4.5 trillion dollars globally on health care every year? That would pay for more than half of the entire US population to go to a PRIVATE college each year. It’s no wonder people are looking for more natural ways to achieve wellness and maintain good health. It can be so empowering to be able to heal yourself and your family without messing with insurance companies, doctor’s office visits and expensive co-payments.

Essential oils is one form of natural healing that is quickly rising in popularity. For those of you who are new to essential oils, let me tell you a little bit. Basically the essential oil is a liquid that is distilled from leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots or other elements of a plant. It is such a highly concentrated form of the plant that 1 single drop of essential oil is equal to 28 cups of tea. It’s also important to note that most essential oils score higher than most fruits and vegetables in providing antioxidants. In fact, essential oils have the highest ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) rate in the world, making it the best source for destroying free radicals—which we know helps prevent cancer and other diseases.

Whether using a single oil or a complex blend, people have been using essential oils topically, aromatically and as dietary supplements for thousands of years for both emotional and physical wellness. And just recently many mainstream hospitals have also embraced essential oils as well. (http://www.youtube.com/watch/?v=px5Iy15hnCw).

When buying essential oils for therapeutic uses, it’s important to look for a 100% pure essential oil. There are a growing number of products claiming to be or to contain essential oils. They range in price and quality and are found in skin care, cosmetics, aromatherapy, and other products. However, many of these products often use fragrant synthetic chemical substitutes to dilute or replace more expensive essential oil extracts. doTERRA essential oils are fast becoming recognized as the purest, highest quality Essential Oils in the world because proper extraction and quality control methods also ensure that dōTERRA’s essential oils are free of any contaminants such as pesticides or other chemical residues. doTERRA also uses independent labs to guarantee each bottle is labeled accurately and contains 100% pure essential oil extracts that meet high standards for both purity and material composition.
