Rio 2 Movie
I am feeling the heat, the anxiety is building. I never look forward to this time of year and this year is no exception. Am I talking about an impending doctor’s appointment, tax day or jury duty?
NO!
I am referring to back to school time. I dread it all summer in one way or another. I love our time together (yes really) in the summer and every year their break gets shorter and shorter. At barely 8 weeks our free time in the summer is golden. With two a day swim practices, summer courses, my work and travel schedule and my husband’s work schedule- we have to purposely schedule “turn off and tune in” time.
What I mean by that is every week we pick a night that we are home, turn off and shelve our devices, and sit down together to do- something. Whether it is a movie, cooking together or playing games all that matters is we slow down and enjoy each other.
One particular favorite in the last few months has been the “Drive-in on the dock” movie night. After dinner I make a snack that is shareable, set up our comfy chairs, grab some bug spray, our laptop and the movie of choice.

Part of the fun, for my youngest especially, is picking the snack. This time we headed to Wal-Mart and picked up one of each of our favorite flavors of microwave popcorn from Pop Secret. I like light butter, Noah likes kettle corn, Matt wants movie theater butter and Jacob wants the standard butter selection. I get our our fun popcorn bowls, fill a bucket with ice cold drinks and we head outside.
Our movie selection this week was newly released Rio 2 DVD (Blu-Ray and digital available as well), which I picked up at Wal-Mart with the popcorn. We enjoyed Rio 1 so we knew this one would be a hit too- and it was!
It was a great night to just be together and coming off a weekend of swim meets where we had to be there by 7 am, I really needed to sit still and relax. Even the dogs got in on the action! They love popcorn and waited patiently until we dropped some ????
