EASY Smoky BBQ Black Beans Recipe

May 4, 2011 By admin 6 comments

Welcome! Are you a subscriber? Click here to receive my weekly newsletter. Thanks for visiting!

BBQ black beans are a delicious twist on traditional BBQ beans recipes, using black beans instead of pinto beans. This easy beans recipe is the perfect potluck side dish or picnic food, and also a great Cinco de Mayo side dish!

OK.  I know where this is going to go.  I am going to say that I love beans and you all are going to have some kind of joke that involves the words “Magical Fruit”….Well, I do love bean recipes.  In my quest to eat better and cut back the amount of meat I eat, consequently, I eat more beans as a protein substitute.

In keeping with my Cinco de Mayo recipes theme this week, I have two new recipes:

Easy smoky BBQ black beans, and a creamy avocado sauce for tacos.

Both so good and a welcome new addition to my “Mexican Night” repertoire. ????

BBQ black beans

For an easy Cinco de Mayo meal, serve the BBQ black beans with enchilada cups or tacos. I also like to serve the beans with grilled chicken on whole wheat tortillas, topped with creamy avocado sauce. As a weeknight meatless meal option, serve them with grilled cheese sandwiches.

These BBQ black beans are sweet, smoky and savory… not your ordinary black beans!

If you make this barbecue black beans recipe, I’d love it if you would come back to this post and leave a comment to let me know what you think!

Talk about a healthy fake-out….use this creamy avocado sauce in lieu of sour cream.  You won’t even miss it!

Avocado Sauce

1 ripe Haas avocado
1 jalapeno, seeded
1 C water
1 TB white vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/3 C chopped cilantro
2 TB diced onion

Combine ingredients in a food processor or high speed blender and pulse until pureed. The consistency is up to you. In my house, everything gets pureed so the Picky Child will eat it. ????

Whole wheat tortilla, grilled chicken and Avocado Sauce.  Light, tasty and filling!

I have an old clay bean crock that belonged to my great grandmother and she and that crock made the best beans. My grandmother used it also with the same results. But I am just using it as a precious treasure it is so thin I would hate for it to get broken. Your beans look delicious! I am following you via Fab Friends thurs blog hop. I love black beans and they are a staple in our house. I had a wonderful Cuban friend when I lived in Florida who taught me how she made them. Perfect. Your recipe is very similar to hers.
