Homemade grilled tomato salsa is an easy blender recipe, made with fresh tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. The grilled vegetables are combined with Mexican seasonings, then mixed in the blender, creating a spicy fresh salsa recipe. Perfect for use in your favorite recipes, or just for dipping!
I love, LOVE salsa, almost any kind. Whether is has fire-roasted veggies, is a fruit salsa, or whatever, I just love it. Now, having said that, I am not a fan of many jarred varieties. A few, yes, but once you see how easy it is to make homemade salsa, you will come to prefer it.
Use chips, pitas, or cut up veggies to scoop it up, or add it to your favorite Mexican recipes, like enchiladas. Whatever makes you happy. ????
I have several go-to recipes for salsa but this is one of my favorites. I made a vat of this Sunday in honor of Cinco de Mayo. As a matter of fact, this is the first of 3 recipes I will have this week in honor of this holiday.
This fresh, homemade grilled tomato salsa is one of my favorite blender recipes, too.

Ingredients
- 7 firm medium tomatoes, cold
- 2 jalapeno peppers, stems removed
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups water
- Juice of 1 lime (sometimes I use the zest as well )
- 1/3 cup diced white onion
- 1/2 cup cilantro
Instructions
- Grill the tomatoes (start stem side down) and jalapenos on medium heat on both sides, or until black all over (about 20 minutes). Put both in a bowl to cool, about 10 minutes. Dump all contents of bowl into a blender.
- Blend the tomatoes and jalapenos until smooth. Pause the blender and add the remaining ingredients. Pulse until pureed.
Important Notes
This recipe creates a mildly spiced salsa. Like all recipes, feel free to use more or less jalapeno pepper to suit your taste. This keeps for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
I put some of this grilled tomato salsa in the refrigerator for us to eat. Then, I put the rest of the homemade salsa into cute pint sized mason jars to give away. If it’s stored in a covered container, this salsa keeps for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
**This recipe makes a mild spiced salsa. Like all thing,s you should taste this, then add another jalapeno pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to suit your tastes.
