Christmas morning, for at least the past 15 years, has been the same menu.
I call this the ‘Tallman Family Christmas Morning Menu’ and I really haven’t strayed far from it over the years. I may have tweaked my recipes a bit, because let’s face it, we all get to be better cooks as we get older. Other than that, it has been the same. I think if I change it, my kids will be disappointed. Heck- I would be disappointed. So I have made this our tradition and on Christmas morning it is all about being here, in our home, together.
This post is presented in partnership with Indiana Dairy. Like everything I share on Basilmomma.com, all opinions are my own.
These recipes are simple, which I think makes them the best kind. I try to make as much as I can ahead of time, and we always have leftovers. I’m not sure if it’s the same for you, but the day after Christmas, I need a bit of a break from cooking. Reheating leftovers for breakfast for a few days after Christmas is never a bad thing.
These Christmas morning menu recipes make the most out of whole ingredients, using dairy products to add rich flavor, protein and calcium.
Much better than empty calories from prepared foods. Goodness knows that we get enough of that from Thanksgiving to New Years Day!
All year long, I have been sharing ways to incorporate more healthy dairy in your meal plans, as well as tips to make the most of your grocery shopping trips. From hot bacon and cheese dip to browned butter pork chops with mizithra cheese, it is possible to have your dairy and eat it too! I even toured a few dairy farms like Troxel Dairy Farm and Kuehnert Dairy Farm– plus a trip to Prairie Farms!
The Christmas morning menu is below. We also have french toast casserole, but for some reason, I have never shared the recipe here. Perhaps it is because I never seem to make it the same way. But rest assured, it is decadent with a rich custard of cream, eggs, orange zest and maple syrup. Oh, and bread. Lets not forget the bread!
Holiday Fruit Salad- this jewel colored gem is a twist on a traditional favorite.
Tallman Family Eggnog– I was finally given this recipe. It’s quite possibly the best you will ever have!
Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate- my kids love this and I wake them up with it. Stick a tiny peppermint twist in it to stir and leave a little minty flavor behind.
Make Ahead Egg Casserole with Ham and Green Chilies- this is exactly what is sounds like. Use condensed milk for a richer flavor. Come on, it’s Christmas!
Apple Cheddar Sausage Balls- you may think that if you have had one sausage ball, you’ve had them all. Wrong. Dip these into cool Greek yogurt or sour cream, topped with chopped fresh chives. Or pure Indiana maple syrup!
