Bathroom Faucets ,leaky pipes and homeowner strife…

There is no good time to have a home repair. I call it ‘repair’ because we are not choosing to do this now- we have to. Somethings you can let slide like scuffed walls or needing to update your light fixtures. But a water leak? Leaky bathroom faucets ? You let these things go and you will have more than a soggy mess on your hands. You can have a serious mold problem to deal with.

No one wants that.

We noticed about a year ago that the bathroom that my sons use had a drippy shower head. We cleaned it (we have very hard water) and tightened anything that was loose- but other than that we saw no issues. The dripping turned into mysterious puddles where there shouldn’t be puddles- the final straw was that several tiles on the wall simply fell off revealing mushy drywall underneath.

Me, being incredibly scared of mold, went into panic mode and bleached everything (I am like the father in Big Fat Greek Wedding when it comes to bleach- I use it a lot) and tried to find the source of the leak. We couldn’t. Not only was the faucet still dripping but it became evident there was a leak somewhere behind the wall, along the waterline.

We got an estimate to fix it and about fell over. It was almost cheaper to tear out this marble stall shower and re-install a common tub/shower combo. This is a good time to point out that our house has NO bath tub. The previous owners, being older, thought they were dangerous so they had them taken out and replaced with marble stall showers. They were not in great shape 8 years ago when we moved in and they really aren’t now.

So we are now planning on doing this tear out and while we are at it paining the walls, replacing the black and white tile with wainscoting, removing the outdated medicine cabinet and replacing the sink faucet. Almost all of this we can do ourselves- except the shower and shower head. That needs to be contracted out.

So we begun to look for new shower heads that were functional, sturdy and high quality- yet affordable. We went to every home improvement store in our area and came up short. My husband being one who will look online first then look locally second found 2 that he liked online. So I guess we are going to draw straws or something.

And you know…when you pick out a new shower head then you feel like you need to update your bathroom faucets too…. It’s a vicious cycle!

Did I mention how much I hate home repairs before the holidays? Merry Christmas- I get a bathroom repair! ????
