It’s hard to come up with unique sandwich ideas that haven’t been used yet but I can guarantee that there are no sandwiches as zesty as these floating around the internet!
You may be wondering what I added to my run of the mill lunchtime anytime sandwich to make it go from just OK to WOW- and the answer is one of the NEW sandwich spreads from Sabra! Yes folks, Sabra has found a way to make your sandwich go from good to great with less fat and calories than mayonnaise (shudder. I do not love mayo at all).
This post is brought to you in partnership with Sabra. All opinions (and these bottles of sandwich spread) are my own.
I work from home and most days I am eating leftovers, whatever I shot that day for a post or a sandwich for lunch. Not to mention the sheer number of sandwiches I make for lunches and packing to eat while stuck in the time vortex of a swim meet. So I am always on the lookout for a way to add flavor and not add fat and calories. Did I mention I am not a mayo fan? But in all seriousness, if you want to add a little zip- it’s hard to find something that isn’t runny, or plain old bad for you. In the past I had used Sabra hummus as a sandwich spread so it’s natural that I would fall hard and fast in love with their new sandwich spreads.
Available in three flavors – Garlic Herb, Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper and Honey Mustard, Sabra Sandwich Spreads are the first line of refrigerated spreads from Sabra that are made with hummus AND the first of its kind to hit grocery stores! Find it in the deli section. All three varieties are vegan, kosher, gluten-free, and non-dairy, contain 0g Trans Fat, 0mg Cholesterol and are made with the best quality ingredients. I am a big fan.
Today I am sharing a few unique sandwich ideas with you. No recipe per se- but some combos I tried that I really loved. Now you may notice that I used some pretty safe ingredients. Feel free to kick these up a notch in any way you see fit. Want a wide selection of things to try in one of these unique sandwich ideas? Go to the deli counter and order several varieties of meats or cheese in small quantities and hit the salad bar for small amounts of pre-chopped and sliced toppings.
Looking for a few new unique sandwich ideas?
First up is the Ham, Sharp Cheddar and Honey Mustard Hummus Spread on a Croissant. I used a sweet ham, thick slice of sharp Wisconsin cheddar, green leaf lettuce and fresh Indiana tomatoes. So simple, so good. The honey mustard in the spread really worked with the sweet ham and tangy cheddar. This is also currently what my son requests in his lunchbox every day.
Next I combined a few flavors I love and smacked it down on a pretzel roll. Flaming Buffalo Sliced Chicken with Blue Cheese Cheddar (yes, that’s a thing. A delicious thing), Green leaf lettuce, bacon, fresh tomato slices and the sea salt and cracked black pepper spread. This would make a great game day sandwich!
Lastly, I made a classic Turkey and Cheese on Wheat except the turkey is high quality and thick cut, provolone, thick tomato slices, alfalfa sprouts and garlic herb spread. So much goodness. Be sure to use a good quality wheat bread for this. It’s the perfect vessel for a sandwich.
The convenient squeeze bottle helps you get it on there faster! Love this fresh new way to eat hummus!
