Fresh watermelon lemonade is a refreshing, family friendly summer drink. It combines fresh watermelon with either homemade lemonade, lemon juice, or store bought lemonade. There’s not much better on a hot summer day!
The trouble with back to school time is that it inevitably happens when it still feels like summer outside. Sitting in a hot classroom on a sunny summer day can be a total downer. I can’t do much about the weather or the school calendar, but I can offer my kids cool, refreshing after school treats to help them beat the back to school blues!
I don’t like giving my kids sugary drink boxes or soda pop. Instead, I welcome my boys home with a frosty glass of watermelon lemonade, a sweet and refreshing drink that I feel good about serving. I enjoy a tall glass of it on a hot summer day, too.
It’s so quick and easy to make! It’s simply fresh watermelon, ice cubes, lemonade (or lemon juice) and a splash of honey, blended until it’s thick. Sometimes I use frozen strawberries, grapes, peaches, or raspberries to make a thicker, slushy-like drink.
If you don’t want to make your own lemonade, you can use store bought as well. Using homemade lemonade allows control over the amount of sugar that’s added. I’ve made it both ways, and I’ve even used straight up lemon juice as well. Any of those options will work in this recipe.
