Cheerios Protein  Makes our Mornings!

I have been on the hunt for foods my children can eat that keep them full and satisfied for years. You can only have so many smoothies and omelettes before you get burned out and need more material. According to a recent survey of parents throughout the country, moms and dads say they are running in a million different directions in the morning and can’t make a protein-rich breakfast for their families. Additionally, more than half admit there isn’t time to prepare it.

Each of my sons have specific needs when it comes to breakfast. In the case of my oldest I should say ‘breakfasts’ as in he eats at least 3 meals before lunch every day. He is a competitive swimmer and keeping him full and nourished is a challenge. No sooner does he eat first breakfast does he get hungry for his second. But I guess this is what happens when you swim at least 6 miles a day 6 days a week.

My youngest son eats like a bird so I have to make each and every meal count. He has a very diverse palate but when it comes to breakfast he reaches for yogurt, cereal and fruit. Sounds ok, right?

I am one of those moms that is no fun. I don’t buy the cereal that is loaded with colorful marshmallows, that turns your milk colors or is doused in chocolate. Those are like a dessert to me and dessert has no place on my breakfast table. In my search for healthy (actually healthy) breakfast cereals I came across Cheerios Protein.

I contacted the company and asked for a sample to review and share with my kids. Cheerios is an iconic brand that I grew up with and also fed my children when they were small. Cheerios was their first finger food, the best portable snack, sometimes used in our art projects and quite possibly was used as a target in potty training (yes- we all did it don’t laugh at me!).

What better brand than Cheerios to give my kids to start their day. I challenged both of the boys to create a way to enjoy this cereal for breakfast. Something they could make on their own and put their own spin on. It may not be original- but it’s how they eat their O’s!

Get more information about this new cereal HERE and keep an eye out for it at Wal-Mart and Target.

I bought a few boxes at Target and compared it to a few other competing brands to see how much protein the others provided. Cheerios comes out on top with 11 grams per serving when served with milk!

Noah opted to make a yogurt parfait with strawberries and blueberries while Jacob went traditional with milk and berries as well. Combine this cereal with a healthy dairy and fruit- that’s a recipe for morning satisfaction! We decided that we love this version and that Cheerios Protein will most likely replace our other favorite- Honey Nut Cheerios. We just can’t pass up the additional protein!
