For the last several months I have been researching different ways to share my love of food, cooking, dining out and snapshots of the local food movement with my readers. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr are a few of the many modes of communication we use these days when we want to visually share our life in food through the lens of a camera. But what kind? How elaborate of a camera do you need to take a great shot and instantly share it with the world?

There is a certain level of functionality that is required and I have found that you can get exactly what you want in a mobile device such as a smart phone or in this case- a smart camera. The Samsung Galaxy Camera is fully loaded with a 16–MP camera featuring a powerful 21x optical–zoom lens and twice the resolution of the typical smartphone camera. I have taken some fantastic shots of food in the last several weeks. Unlike my current smart phone, this device has 4G so I was able to share them quickly and on the fly no matter where I was.

The ability to tell a story in one photo and do it fast is where the rubber meets the road. A few years ago I would cook a dish, take a few shots, edit them on my computer, write up the post then share it via my website subscribers. Best case I could do this in about 2 days.

Now not only can I take quality shots that I can edit within the device, I can ‘tease’ the readers with the post to come. Letting them know at that exact moment what that one great bite tasted like. I can be standing in a vineyard and through the use of Verizon’s 4G LTE technology I can bring my readers right along with me.

Food writing and culinary media is a tough market to work in. Gaining and sustaining followers for both Edible Indy Magazine, Around the Kitchen Sink Radio and my own site: Basilmomma.com, has required that I stay on top of the best way to stay in touch with those who are interested in what I am eating and cooking. Those that give up a few minutes of their day to visit with me. I give 2 thumbs up for the new Samsung Galaxy Camera based off of it’s ease of use, options in the Android market and the ability to fully customize your photo experience just like that of a DSLR.

Here are a few of the many shots I have taken over the last several weeks:

Like everything I write about, all opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post BUT I was allowed to borrow this product (at my request) to give it a test drive. For more information on the Samsung Galaxy Camera visit HERE.
