It takes all of the right components to pull a good recipe off. Quality ingredients, a bit of knowledge about the preparation, patience and organization make up the rest of the formula.

This time of year I want to wow my guests at holiday events with something simple, yet full of flavor.  Something that they will talk about on the way home and crave a week later.

One such dish is my bourbon glazed duck breasts sliders with cherries and goat cheese. I start with quality duck breasts from Maple Leaf Farms, a smooth single barrel bourbon from Four Roses, plump dried cherries from Michigan and a soft and tangy goat cheese from Capriole Farms. This combination just works. It is simple yet well balanced and made better when served on King’s Hawaiian® Dinner Rolls.

The subtle sweetness and soft texture of King’s Hawaiian® Dinner Rolls bring more to this recipe than your average soft roll or bun. This recipe can take center stage on your holiday buffet table and be will be a hit with adults and children. My test panel gave it 2 thumbs up!

1 C single barrel bourbon

1/4 C low sodium soy sauce

1/2 tsp garlic, chopped (or 1 Lg clove)

1/4 tsp cinnamon

2/3 C dried cherries

2 oz

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a hot skillet place the duck breasts skin side down then reduce heat to medium high.

Sprinkle duck with salt and pepper.

Saute skin side down for 10 minutes.

Remove from pan and place on a baking sheet.

Place in oven and bake for 11-13 minutes at 400 degrees until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

Meanwhile in the same skillet on medium heat, add the next 5 ingredients and allow to cook until it has reduced by half.

Add the cherries and turn off the heat.

Remove cooked duck from oven and allow to rest for 2-3 minutes.

Slice into thin medallions and place in the pan of bourbon reduction.

Give them a light toss to coat.

Layer on open King’s Hawaiian buns and top with goat cheese crumbles and cherries from the pan.

Serve immediately.

Makes 12 sliders.
