Growing up I was not the most adventurous eater.  Sure, I ate what my parents cooked and I rarely turned my nose up when served.  That may have stemmed from my desire to make people happy.  I didn’t want to hurt the cooks feelings.

Fast forward to my adult years and I can count on one hand the things I have tried and absolutely never want to eat again.  I also have a “Top 10 List” of foods that I simply don’t eat.  So think of Letterman’s Top 10 list and then take the funny out of it.  It may shock you to know that high on my list are eggs.  Now, I have eaten them, really I have.  When I had to.  But now that I am in charge of my own culinary destiny I eat what I want!

But I can honestly say I have really had a huge variety of interesting, adventurous and unique foods in the last 10-15 years. I go to many food festivals and on many culinary travels.. If you enjoy that kind of thing and like to have a ton of variety all in one place then the following event is for you.

You would be shocked to learn that one of my favorite bites, and I mean in the last few years at least, comes from an area of the cow that is not often associated with taste and flavor.  That is my opinion of course.  This dish was enjoyed by just a few hundred people at last year’s DigIndiana held at White River State Park.

The dish in question was the Tongue and Cheek Taco’s from Joseph Decuis of Roanoke, Indiana.  Not only did they prepare the most flavorful and moist beef for these taco’s the slow roasted  meat was dusted with the signature Java Nib rub from Best Boy and Co, also based in Roanoke.  Old friends Chef Aaron Butts and Best Boy owner Wayne Shive collaborated on this recipe and to say it hit every note on my palate would be an understatement. It was definitely worth the short wait in line.

I recommend getting your tickets now ( HERE ) and making plans to attend Indiana’s premiere farm to fork event on Sunday August 25 from 12-5 pm.   Visit the DigIndiana website to see the complete listing of chefs involved.  I am proud to call many of them close friends and I am excited to see what they have in store for us this year.  I loved the layout and flow from last year not to mention the perfectly sunny day on the canals.  It was about as perfect as a day can be!

From breweries to wineries, the best of Indiana will be on display in the scenic confines of White River State Park.  Some of my favorites will be there from New Day Meadery to Sun King Brewery.  I even sampled new brews last year that had not been released to the public, which was fun.

As if this is not enough you can sample from dozens of Indiana Artisan foodists as well as local food trucks like Nicey Treat (Squee!).

This is a great event if you want to see what the best of the best of Indiana’s Agricultural and farming scene has to offer in pork, duck, beef, chicken and so much more.  See Indiana Family of Farmers for more information on Indiana’s Agricultural legacy.

Now, I want to hear form YOU! Have you ever been to DigINdiana?  If you are not currently residing in Indiana is there a similar farm to fork fest going on in your area soon?

Look for me there.  I will be floating around, tweeting and Instagramming between bites and sips.  You can follow me on Twitter at @Basilmomma and on Instagram at @BasilmommaHT.
