The first recipe I want to share form the new Garfield: Recipes with CATtitude by Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks is for Country Sausage Gravy.  This traditional favorite is one of the first breakfast menu items I learned as a young married woman.  Plus, if Gaarfield likes it then it MUST be good!

Country Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground pork breakfast sausage
  • 12 oz can evaporated milk
  • 1/4 C butter, softened
  • 2-3 TB all purpose flour
  • garlic salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 buttermilk biscuits, split

Instructions

  1. Brown sausage in a skillet over medium heat, partially drain.
  2. Stir in mlik and bring to a low simmer.
  3. In a small bowl, blend together butter and flour until smooth.
  4. Slowly stir in to the sausage mixture.
  5. Add seasonings.
  6. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened.
  7. Spoon over warm biscuits.
