Caramel Apple Bites {Easy Fall Desserts}

Welcome! Are you a subscriber? Click here to receive my weekly newsletter. Thanks for visiting!

Caramel Apple Bites are juicy bits of fresh apples, delicious caramel sauce, and spices, baked up inside of wonton wrappers. The perfect easy fall desserts or snack!

I am quite a fan of wonton wrappers. I am pretty sure that I called them a blank canvas ingredient 3 times in a row during my cooking segment on IndyStyle this week. Slightly embarrassing, but that is how enthusiastic I am for them. If you have a muffin pan, preferably a mini-muffin pan, then you can make just about anything in a wonton wrapper.

Always a good time on IndyStyle! Special thanks to JenDaisy Boutique for the awesome top!

A seasonal favorite use for the won-won wrapper are these caramel apple bites. Talk about simple- the ingredient list is pretty basic and if you keep most of this on hand you can make a few or in the case of this recipe- 24. I like to use honey crisp apples but feel free to use any apple you like that would be good in a pie. But really- use what you like or have on hand. I like to saute my diced apples just a bit but that is not a necessary step if you are pressed for time. My apples were very hard and not very juicy so I threw them in a skillet for about 4 minutes to soften them a bit.

So as you can see this is simple. But why should good food be hard?

You can find wonton wrappers in most produce departments, in a refrigerated case. I paid $2.49 and had more than enough for other uses. Simply wrap in plastic and put back in the refrigerator.

These caramel apple bites need to be stored in an airtight container, if they last that long!

Watch the short clip of me making these on IndyStyle AND finishing them off with locally made Best Boy & Co caramel!

Here’s the caramel apple bites recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 package of refrigerated won ton wrappers (look in produce)
  • 5 Honey crisp apples, peeled, cored and diced small
  • 1 TB white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Caramel of your choice- I use Best Boy & Co Bourbon Barrel Stout infused caramel

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Peel, core and dice the apples.
  3. Place in a skillet and toss with cinnamon and sugar.
  4. Saute on medium low heat for 4-5 minutes- just to soften them a bit.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. In a 24 spot mini-muffin pan place a won ton wrapper in each spot, folding gently to make it fit (think pleats).
  7. Evenly distribute the apples in each spot being careful not to overfill.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, or until won ton wrapper is lightly browned.
  9. Remove from heat and add a small amount (about a teaspoon) of caramel to each one.
  10. Allow to cool and serve.
