I was at my local Meijer the other day getting fresh herbs for a pesto. Yes, I buy my herbs at the grocery store. No, I don’t grow them in the winter. Anyhow, there was a few women there hemming and hawing over their choices. One told the other they needed cilantro for something and proceeded to put parsley in the bag. Of course I had to tell her it was the wrong thing. The other woman launched into a tirade over cilantro and her hatred of this prolific herb.
Why hate cilantro? Some say it is the soapy taste that some can’t get past. Some also say the soapy taste comes on stronger in those with a genetic predisposition to that sensation. What do YOU think?
So I decided to ask my friends what herb they can do without. The results may not surprise you. My least favorite herb? Tarragon. Hands down.
Some people had strong feelings about their dislikes while others mentioned that maybe it was the amount that bothered them and not the herb itself. I think there is merit to that line of thinking.
What do YOU think? What is YOUR least favorite herb?
