Mulled Wine and a Chat with Jeanette Merritt

Mulled wine is an easy holiday cocktail to make, and it is delicious, too!

I love a warm drink on a cold fall day. Today, I needed a bit of comfort from a steaming mug of something. I had already consumed my daily allotment of coffee, and I really didn’t want cider (too sweet) so I made mulled wine.

Mulled Wine Recipe, from basilmomma.com

I am a wine lover, I have made NO secret of that. There are many ways to enjoy grapes besides the usual out of the bottle approach. Recently, I had Jeanette Merritt of the Indiana Wine and Grape Council on Around the Kitchen Sink Radio. We shared tips and stories about our mutual love of wine, in all its forms!

Of course, we discussed other ways to use grapes in recipes, too. A favorite recipe of mine that uses grapes is Refreshing Grape, Mint and Tomato Salad. It’s a quick and easy summer side salad!

This is my standard mulled wine recipe. Sometimes I shake it up a bit, adding a bit of brandy, bourbon or apple cider. Make it your own way, but I can tell you this- it won’t last long! Your house will smell wonderful while it is warming in the slow cooker or on the stove.

Have you ever made mulled wine?

Share your favorite add-ins with me in the comments!

Heather, I agree with you... sometimes you need something warmer than "room temp." Your mulled wine sounds wonderful and your "make it your own" suggestions are great, too. (No batch the same!)
