Brown sugar oatmeal is a delicious steel cut oatmeal, spiced with cinnamon and brown sugar, made in a slow cooker. You can even make it an overnight oatmeal recipe!
The first and by far easiest recipe I made from the new Slow Cooking All Year Round cookbook from Gooseberry Patch is the Brown Sugar Slow Cooker Oatmeal recipe on page 8. I knew this would fit in perfectly over the weekend when we had to be up and out of the house before 6 a.m. for a 3-day long swim meet!
I literally threw the ingredients for this recipe in the crock pot before I went to bed. That’s it. My slow cooker has a timer, so it stayed piping hot all night. I added a pinch of cinnamon to the recipe, because I like the flavor. The original recipe is great, though. ????
I love any kind of quick and easy breakfast recipes, especially oatmeal. My boys usually enjoy things that take a little bit longer to make, like breakfast pizza.
Although this slow cooker brown sugar oatmeal recipe takes 4 hours to cook, it’s easy, because it is a hands off recipe.
You can start the cooking before you go to bed and wake up to breakfast that is ready to eat.
If you want to add toppings to the brown sugar oatmeal, like I did, add them after you have finished cooking the oatmeal. I added Craisins and some chopped nuts. I didn’t try this, but I bet you could even add chopped apples or pears to the slow cooker with the rest of the ingredients.
If you like oatmeal like I do, be sure to check out my other oatmeal recipe, for Baked Oatmeal Breakfast Bars {Plus Topping Ideas}.
I hope you enjoy this easy slow cooker brown sugar oatmeal recipe!
