Should I or Shouldn’t I….. |
For some time I have been mulling over the idea of a new feature on my site, something separate from the food. Not a complete departure mind you, just a bit more of an in depth commentary as to what is going on in the world around me.
I took several factors into consideration before I decided to unleash my opinions on the world. I need to remember who is reading this. My family, my friends and all of you. There is a fine line between talking about how I feel and flushing my small following down the toilet. But this last line, in and of itself is the basis for this new feature.
Is it even possible to be who you really are and let that shine through in your blog posts?
I think so. I read a lot of blogs, a lot. I don’t always comment on every one because, frankly, I don’t always have the time. But I feel like for all of the writers and cooks that visit my site the LEAST I can do is return the favor. And it’s not a chore, I enjoy it. I like to see a slice of their lives in each post. Not to mention ALL of the great ideas that I have gotten over the last few years!
But what about all of the posts that are floating out there in the ether, ones that you read and say hmmm…who is their audience here? The average parent, home cook or budding writer? Why are they dropping so many names? Is this just an advertisement for a cause, brand or product? Recently, I asked my Twitter followers to send me questions or topics that they wanted me to talk about here.
First up was: Do you do sponsored posts?
I have never been a blogger for hire but I did dip my toes in the water a bit. I had a really hard time writing about things that I really didn’t know about or wouldn’t use. I commend anyone who does this. I think it is hard. If you have a post to do for a company and you are just eh about the product you really have to get creative.
I have, however, been contacted by a few companies of products I already use and asked to do a post about it. I don’t mind doing this because chances are I have already blogged it or was going to. For example: Red Gold and Agave in the Raw. 2 brands I already have in my pantry. I would write about more brands I use…I guess I am just waiting to be contacted!
I briefly used Social Spark and that went well, I just couldn’t keep up with this site, my writing on the side, being a wife, mother and working full time. Something had to give.
My hat goes off to all the bloggers that do affiliate links, etc. That looks like a lot of work with a lot of competition. I follow several local frugal bloggers like: The Average parent, Chaos is Bliss and IN Good Cents. If you like to see daily deals, I highly recommend you check them out!
Keep your suggestions coming. The next 3 topics are:

Paula Deen: It’s not like she spoon feeds us…we feed ourselves!
Obsession with Appearances: Do we REALLY need to discuss what we are wearing for 3 months before an event?
