Oh No I Didn't…….

Hello….My name is Heather…and I sometimes used Store bought cakes!  Gasp, I know!  I am a food blogger, professed Foodie and I do this?  The shame…the horror!

You know I am kidding about the shame and horror part, right?  I mean, who doesn’t buy a few of these things from time to time?  I found out I needed to bring a dessert to a dinner at a friends house the other day.  I wanted to bring something good, fresh and well…homemade.  BUT, since I found out we were going about 1 hour before I had to think quick!  I had this recipe I cut out of the paper a few years ago that I made and everyone liked it so I got down to business ‘assembling’ my dessert!

This is super simple, very quick and you can top it with berries (I had a lot to use) or not at all.  This was gone in 15 minutes and no one was the wiser…that I had bought the base and not made it.  I admit, I cannot make a good angel food cake.  I know at least a few of you that can relate ????

I took a picture with a different camera and didn’t notice that the date said 2004!  I didn’t have time to clean up the picture…so this is REAL life, not all of my pic’s can be set up nicely ????

Angel Lush with Pineapple

1 20 oz can of crushed pineapple, undrained
1 3.4 oz package of vanilla instant pudding
1 C thawed Cool Whip
1 10oz angel food cake cut into 3 equal layers
berries

Mix pineapple and dry pudding mix in a bowl.  Gently fold in the whipped topping.
Stack the layers on a nice plate (or in my case a carrier), spreading the pudding mixture between each layer and on top.

Refrigerate for 1 hour to set.  After that I garnished with the berries so they wouldn’t fall off.  I also filled the ‘hole’ with blackberries!  Yum!

After the struggles I've had over the last month to create the perfect angel food cake. I think I'll cross to the dark side too and buy the bloody box and make one already! LOL Looks really delicious!

personally, i think using store brought stuff once in a while is perfectly fine. it's just when it heads towards the Sandra Lee direction, it's not.

Your post title had me giggling! I also use store bought cake sometimes and I may have a tiny addiction to a certain frozen pound cake...

Basilmomma, I just love you to pieces!! You're so cute! I think it's wonderful that you - a Foodie and celebrated Food Blogger - are willing to let us know what you do when you're in a time crunch and still determined to present something gorgeous and yummy. YAY! One of my favorite desserts of all time is my grandmother's Angel Lemon Pudding, and it uses "store-bought" angel food cake. It isn't nearly as pretty as your fruit-topped Angel Lush, though. Love ya!

This made me giggle. I buy store made brownies that are frosting a lot of the time. I don't even doctor them up :o) Haha. As long as it tastes good I don't even care.

I think Ali said it best. If it tastes good and pleases you, it shouldn't matter where it comes from. It will be a cold day in hell when I make puff pastry when I can buy it made 10 times better with no stress. :)
