Not Just Any Old Drink….

Water infused with raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and lemon.  This pitcher went with me to work today ????

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you.  I have in fact posted something on my blog that is…well…water.  Good old H20….. agua.

I meant to post this in June when it got really hot here but I forgot.  I noticed that unless I put out a glass of ice water for my kids when we are home that they never drink water.  I mean, they do when we are eating or at restaurants but they do not get it on their own.  What do they drink then, you ask?  They don’t.  It wasn’t until I started keeping track of their water intake that I noticed they they take in very little actual water.  I know they get some through foods, etc. But I want them to want to drink water.  I admit it.  This refreshing drink can get boring.  The key is to make it unusual.  Good, but different.

I started every day setting out a tall pitcher on a towel on the kitchen counter..Sometimes I added mint leaves and raspberries.  Other days just lemon or orange slices.  If I was really being adventurous I added mixed berries ????

This thing is…it worked!  Even my non-berry lover slurped down my concoctions.  We took in more water in 2 months of being home thank we ever have!  We all felt better, my skin felt less dry, my son’s constant thirst was sated and we found a new refreshing beverage!  I am now taking along a pitcher of this to work every day.  I talk all day and I am always thirsty so this really hits the spot!

What I have is a 2 quart pitcher.  I fill half of it with ice cubes.  Then I add my chosen fruit, mint, citrus…whatever.  I will use 1 whole lemon or orange , 1/2 C mint leaves (washed), or 1 pint of sliced strawberries or whole berries.  I will use a wooden spoon to muddle it a bit.  I like to see the little flecks of fruit in my glass!  Then I fill to the top with water.  As the day goes on I do add more water.  By the end of the day it is less potent but we have enjoyed it all day and by the end there is not much fruit left!  It was close and at the ready for my kids to refill their own glasses and they liked trying to get a little fruit in each glass !

So, like I said, this is not a recipe.  Just a little tip gleaned through my own experience here at home.  Make it look attractive and they will try it ????

This is a wonderful idea! I must agree with you that water is quite a boring drink! Though if you would let us know the proportions of berries you used for a jog that would be great! I am looking forward to making this chilled, refreshing, berry infused drink!! :)

Looks yummy. I used to be like your sons, only drinking water with meals, but I have gotten better in the last couple of years (pregnancy forced the issue, then it was kind of a habit to drink more). You should call this "water sangria". :)

We do the same. What kid wouldn't want to drink something that looks so festive on the eyes. :)

I'm so happy you have changed your water drinking habits! When we wake up the body is dehydrated so its recommended to drink at least 1 glass of water before breakfast and after brushing our teeth. Without water our body can't detoxify and function properly. I work at a healing & rejuvenation clinic and the first thing we tell our patients is to dirnk at least 1 liter of water per 50 pounds of weight. I always tell people to add lime/lemon juice to their water if they find it boring but this idea is way beter :) thank you for sharing your experience, hope you can inspire more ppl to hydrate and make it a habit. ]
