Founded in 1850, Hulman & Company Coffee Roasting, Spice Milling and Wholesale Grocery in Terre Haute, IN spawned the Clabber Girl® Baking Powder business. Because of these successes, Anton Hulman Jr. was able to purchase the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1945. Today, Clabber Girl, still family owned and still located in Terre Haute, IN; is one of the oldest and most trusted brands in the United States. For more than 160 years, the company has earned the trust of home cooks and culinary professionals alike.
Clabber Girl, the leading manufacturer of baking powder in the nation, is also a leader in the food industry. Its product offerings to include a broader range baking ingredients, dessert mixes and custom leavening systems, creating a stronger presence in retail, foodservice and industrial markets.
Today, you can visit Clabber Girl in Terre Haute and experience a trip back in time through a tour in their historical museum. I visited there in late 2013 and learned more than I ever could have imagined about the Hulman family and the history of one of Indiana’s oldest and largest heritage brands. I dined in the bakeshop and stocked up on baking powder, cookie and brownie mixes and Rex Roasting Co coffee!
